BRICK, NJ—March 22, 2010—The Haven at Shorrock Gardens, an assisted living residence specializing in the care of seniors with Alzheimer’s Disease and early memory loss, will host a Memory Screen Day on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 from 10 am to 4 pm. The free and confidential screening is designed to improve overall health maintenance and to promote proper detection of memory problems. All adults—particularly those with memory concerns or a family history of Alzheimer’s Disease—are encouraged to participate. The screening is also an excellent opportunity to establish a baseline score for future reference and a chance to pick up related educational materials.
“The screenings take just five to ten minutes, but they’re extremely valuable for monitoring memory function,” says Wendy Metzger, Administrator at The Haven at Shorrock Gardens. She continued, “Warning signs of dementia include forgetting names and events, asking repetitive questions, loss of verbal or written skills and confusion over daily routines. Checking your brain is as important as checking the health of the rest of your body.”
A series of questions and tasks is administered by a team of healthcare professionals under the direction Joshua R. Shua-Haim, MD, FACP, AGSF, CMD, one of the foremost geriatricians and specialists in the areas of memory loss. Dr. Shua-Haim is presently an attending physician at Ocean Medical Center in Brick and at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and is a consulting physician at Southern Ocean County Medical Center in Manahawkin.
